2008 Rebranding of CMII
The CMII Acronym
CMII began as a reengineered version of configuration management (CM). The CMII name was adopted in 1988. Over 6,000 grads in over 750 organizations in over 30
countries now hold CMII certification.
As of July 2, 2008, CMII is rebranded. It is no longer an acronym for Configuration Management II. CMII has continued to evolve and is much more encompassing than
CM. CMII is configuration management, requirements management, change management, release management, data management, asset management, risk management, records
management, project management, document control, library control, quality assurance and enabling software tools integrated into one cohesive unit.
Integrated Process Excellence
CMII is the path to integrated process excellence. The five levels of business process evolution are (1) Unaware, (2) Enlightened, (3) Committed, (4) Engaged and
(5) Excellence. Those operating in the corrective action mode with no plan to escape are at Level 1. Any organisation can make the transition from Level 1 to Level
5 by simply following the CMII path which is comprised of 8 phases.
